Trolly-e-bus service in Nagpur Likely to Hit soon

Taking a significant step towards sustainable energy, the Transport Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated the contract process for the launch of a tram-like electric bus service in the city. The NMC plans to invite tenders for this pilot project soon. At the same time, these trolley e-buses will be the first of their kind in the country, aiming to revolutionize urban transportation.The pilot project in Nagpur will be funded by the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways, and the civic body has begun preparing the necessary tender documents.
The tender is expected to be released next month. Following the tendering process, the NMC will enter into an agreement with the selected company to kick off the project.Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has frequently highlighted this project in his speeches, and it is now poised for launch. The trolley e-buses will operate along a 52 km stretch of the inner Ring Road, servicing various routes including Katol Naka, MIDC, Hingna T-Point, Chhatrapati Square, Kalamna, and Kamptee Road.Each bus will consist of three interconnected units, offering a total capacity of 132 seats. A recent test ride conducted on the Ring Road demonstrated the buses’ capabilities.
Compared to traditional diesel buses, the fares for these electric buses are projected to be 30% cheaper.This innovative system allows the buses to charge wirelessly in just a minute. Fully air-conditioned, the buses will feature amenities such as packaged food, CCTV surveillance, and laptop holders at every seat, ensuring a comfortable and secure travel experience for passengers. This initiative marks a progressive move towards greener public transportation in Nagpur.
