Sessions Court Issues Notice to Ritika Malu in Ram Jhula Case

On Thursday, District and Sessions Judge SR Patil (Bhosle) issued a notice to Ritika Malu, the main accused in the Ram Jhula case, in response to an application filed by Tehsil police requesting the cancellation of her bail. Malu faces serious charges stemming from a tragic drunk driving incident that occurred on the night of February 24, 2024, resulting in the deaths of Mohmmad Hussain Gulam Mustafa (34) and Mohammad Atif Mohammad Joya (32).

The unfortunate incident unfolded when Malu, accompanied by her friend Madhuri Shishir Sarda (37), allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident. Following public outcry and police investigations, both women later surrendered and were taken into custody. Initially, the Tehsil police charged them under Section 304(a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a bailable offense. However, as investigations progressed and it was confirmed that Malu was intoxicated at the time of the incident, the charges were escalated to Section 304, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

In light of these developments, the sessions court has mandated that Malu submit a formal response by August 3 regarding the police’s request to revoke her bail. This bail had been previously granted by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), but the serious nature of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the case have prompted the police to seek its cancellation. The court’s decision on this matter could significantly impact the legal proceedings against Malu and her co-accused, as the case continues to unfold in the public eye.
