Sinhagad Fort in Pune Closed to Tourists Today and Tomorrow
Due to ongoing heavy rains in the Sinhagad and Khadakwasla areas, the Forest Department has announced that Sinhagad Fort will be closed to tourists on Saturday, August 3, and Sunday, August 4. This decision comes as a precautionary measure after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Saturday and an orange alert for Sunday. On the morning of July 30, a landslide occurred on the Sinhagad Ghat road, just within the last kilometer leading to the fort. A substantial section of the mountain, including numerous trees, collapsed onto the road, creating a significant blockage.
The Forest Department, in collaboration with the Ghera Sinhagad Forest Conservation Committee, immediately began efforts to clear the debris. However, the continuous rainfall has hindered progress, turning the landslide soil into mud and complicating the removal of the obstruction. Deepak Pawar, the Assistant Deputy Conservator, stated, “With forecasts predicting further heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, we have decided to close the fort to vehicles for public safety.” He highlighted the necessity of this closure to protect visitors from potential hazards associated with the severe weather conditions.
Tourists are strongly advised to stay informed about weather forecasts and follow official warnings to avoid traveling to the area during adverse conditions. The public is encouraged to adhere to these safety measures to ensure the well-being of everyone during this period of heavy rainfall. The Forest Department remains committed to monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates regarding the reopening of Sinhagad Fort once conditions improve. As safety is the top priority, visitors are urged to plan their trips accordingly and take the necessary precautions. Your adherence to these guidelines is greatly appreciated and will help ensure a safer environment for all.
