Pune Porsche Case: Teen Driver Submits Road Safety Essay to Meet Bail Conditions

In compliance with his bail conditions, the 17-year-old driver involved in a fatal Porsche crash, which resulted in the deaths of two software engineers, has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).

The crash, allegedly caused by the Porsche Taycan striking a two-wheeler, has sparked public outrage. Sources familiar with the essay’s contents reveal that the teenager reflected on the significance of traffic rules and the consequences of fleeing accident scenes. It is reported that the youth admitted fear as the driving force behind his attempt to escape following the collision on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyaninagar district. A source close to the matter stated, “He wrote about the tremendous fear he experienced after the fatal accident involving his car. Under this fear, instead of informing the police, he tried to flee the scene before being apprehended by locals.”

The essay, submitted on Wednesday, urges readers to promptly approach the nearest police station in the event of an accident, emphasizing that failure to do so could lead to further complications. The teen also stressed the importance of providing assistance to accident victims.

The lenient bail conditions, which include the essay assignment and a 15-day traffic monitoring duty with local police, have sparked public outrage regarding the crash. However, after initial outcry, the JJB remanded the teen to an observation home on May 22. On June 25, the High Court ruled this detention illegal, emphasizing the importance of adhering to juvenile justice laws.

Sources note that while the essay touches on general road safety principles, it lacks specific details about the accident or its victims. One source commented, “The essay is very generic, making it difficult to gauge the juvenile’s mental state.”

The teen’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, and JJB member Laxman Dhanawade were unavailable for comment, while Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohidas Pawar confirmed that the police are ready to comply with court orders regarding the teen’s traffic monitoring duty. However, they have yet to be approached by the youth or his representatives.
