New Traffic Plan Reduces Congestion Between Morris College Square and Ajni Square
Traffic flow has improved between Morris College Square and Ajni Square, thanks to a newly implemented traffic management system by the Nagpur Traffic Police. Previously plagued by evening traffic jams, the route now takes just five minutes to traverse, a significant reduction from the 30-minute delays caused by congestion at Shahid Gowari Flyover, Rahate Colony Square, and Kriplani Square. These changes are part of an experimental traffic plan spearheaded by the newly appointed DCP Traffic, Archit Chandak. He has received positive feedback from residents, who appreciate the decreased travel time. Previously, motorists faced long waits at two major signals—Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square—especially during rush hours.
To enhance traffic flow, right turns at key intersections between Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square have been temporarily banned from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. DCP Chandak noted that 80% of the traffic on this route travels straight, with only 20% making right turns or U-turns. Additionally, signal durations at Morris College T-point and Ajni Square have been extended by 10 seconds to facilitate quicker movement through the intersections. While the changes have generally benefited most drivers, some have encountered inconveniences due to the right-turn restrictions. To aid these drivers, U-turns are now permitted 200 meters before Kriplani Square, near the Central Jail. During peak hours, extra traffic police have been deployed to ensure effective management of the new system.
Future Enhancements and Public Feedback
DCP Chandak announced plans to install information boards along the route to keep commuters informed about traffic conditions and updates. He also encouraged citizens to provide feedback and suggestions to the Sitabuldi Traffic Zone office to help further refine the system.
New U-turns on Jail Road
Moreover, U-turns have been introduced on Jail Road to alleviate congestion at Ajni Square. Barricades at two locations have been removed, allowing vehicles from Kriplani Square to make U-turns, thereby reducing traffic density at Ajni Square.Overall, the new traffic system has significantly mitigated congestion, and with ongoing improvements and public input, it is anticipated to further enhance the commuting experience in the city.
