Nagpur’s New DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak Takes a Firm Stand on Road Safety
Nagpur: Newly appointed DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak has wasted no time in asserting his authority on his first day in office Thursday, implementing a strict zero-tolerance policy against individuals creating reels or performing stunts on the roads while riding or driving. This decisive action follows the handover of duties from CP Ravinder Singal, who entrusted him with the crucial task of enhancing the city’s troubling traffic situation. Chandak has directed the traffic department to register offenses against those making reels and to pursue legal measures to seize their vehicles for violations.
He plans to enhance visible traffic surveillance, particularly during peak hours, and has committed to cracking down on illegal activities such as drunken driving. Focused checks are set to take place from 6 PM through the midnight hours, especially near pubs and bars, to deter motorists from driving under the influence. In addition to these measures, Chandak oversees the city’s anti-accident cell, which investigates the causes of road crashes and fatalities. He aims to bolster the cell’s operations to implement preventive and corrective strategies effectively. He emphasized the illegality of corner parking under the Motor Vehicle Act, stating, “We will not allow corner parking at any location.
Traffic police will take action against it.”Chandak also aims to streamline traffic around bus stands, railway stations, and other congested areas. He is appealing for public cooperation, inviting evidence in the form of photographs via social media to penalize violators. “We are working to enhance the traffic wing’s social media presence as a public interface,” he noted. Furthermore, he intends to ensure that T-points, like Mate Chowk, have double signals and plans to collaborate closely with the NMC and other agencies to improve overall traffic conditions in Nagpur.
