Sinkhole Devours Entire PMC Truck in Pune’s Budhwar Peth, Netizens React: ‘Space Technology’

On Friday, a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) truck unexpectedly plunged into a large sinkhole that opened up at the City Post Office in the Budwar Peth area. The incident occurred when the parking area’s surface collapsed, causing the truck to fall in rear-first. A video capturing the dramatic event has since gone viral on social media platforms.

In the footage shared by ANI, the PMC truck initially stands still while engaged in drainage cleaning work. Suddenly, as the truck begins to move slowly, a portion of the parking lot gives way, sending the vehicle sliding into the sinkhole. Local residents can be seen rushing towards the scene to assist the driver, who fortunately escaped without injury. According to officials from the PMC, the incident took place around 4 PM in the densely populated Budwar Peth locality, where the truck was conducting drainage maintenance.
The fire department received a call about the incident shortly after at 4:15 PM. A fire official stated, “A truck and several private two-wheelers parked in the vicinity fell into the hole. The truck driver is safe as he managed to escape in time. We are currently using equipment to extract the truck and the two-wheelers from the sinkhole,” as reported by the Indian Express.News agency ANI noted that a team of 20 fire department personnel, along with police officials, quickly arrived at the location to conduct the rescue operation.
Fire department officials informed PTI that the cause of the sinkhole remains undetermined, although they mentioned ongoing underground construction for the Pune Metro in the area.The viral video has sparked reactions online, with one user humorously commenting, “Zameen ke niche vikas khojne gya hoga” (The ground must have gone looking for development). “Space technology,” another user quipped sarcastically.
