Microsoft Expands Pune Data Center with Second Hinjewadi Plot Acquisition in Weeks
In a strategic move to bolster its operations in India, Microsoft has recently acquired a 16.4-acre plot in Hinjewadi, Pune, for ₹453 crore. This follows closely on the heels of a similar purchase made just weeks earlier, reflecting the tech giant’s commitment to expanding its data center capabilities in the region. The acquisition not only strengthens Microsoft’s footprint in India but also aligns with its broader strategy to enhance its cloud services and infrastructure across the country. With this latest acquisition, Microsoft has now secured a total of 30 acres in Hinjewadi, representing a cumulative investment of ₹973 crore. The recent parcel was purchased from Nashik-based Viva Highways Limited, which involved a stamp duty payment of ₹27.18 crore, as per official documents.
This investment underscores Microsoft’s belief in the potential of India’s tech ecosystem and its growing demand for robust data center services. Previously, Microsoft acquired another 16.4-acre plot in August for ₹520 crore, which was officially registered in September. In addition, the company made headlines last year with the acquisition of 25 acres in Pimpri-Chinchwad for ₹328 crore, further solidifying its commitment to expanding its presence in Maharashtra.
These strategic land acquisitions are part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance its data center operations across India, where major facilities are already established in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai. The company’s expansion plans are expected to not only bolster its infrastructure but also create numerous employment opportunities as these centers develop. With the increasing reliance on cloud services and digital solutions, Microsoft’s investments in India signal a strong and growing partnership with the country’s technological landscape.
