Indian Army Day 2025: Pune Celebrates Warfare Evolution with Rajnath Singh in Attendance

The 77th Indian Army Day, celebrated annually on January 15, will feature a spectacular light and sound show in Pune, highlighting the evolution of Indian warfare from ancient times to the present. The event will be graced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.This year’s Army Day Parade will showcase a unique all-girl marching contingent from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), along with four thematic tableaux, one of which will focus on the Army’s Mission Olympics Wing.
The robotic mules will be part of the display, offering a glimpse into modern advancements in military technology.Titled ‘Gaurav Gatha’, the event will draw inspiration from Indian epics as well as contemporary warfare, as reported by news agency PTI. The show will utilize laser and multimedia technology alongside light and sound to enhance the experience, taking place at the Bhagat Pavilion of the Bombay Engineers Group (BEG) and Centre, part of the Army’s Southern Command.The Gaurav Gatha event will be preceded by a parade held in Pune for the first time, themed ‘Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena’. Highlights of the parade will include a band from the Nepal Army and the all-girl NCC contingent, as well as robotic mules.
An official remarked, “While the parade will display various platforms and contingents, the Gaurav Gatha will illustrate the evolution of warfare from ancient times to modern eras, inspired by our epics and contemporary conflicts.”The themes for the Gaurav Gatha will include ‘Prachin Ranniti’, ‘Yudh Kala’, ‘Yudh Parivartan’, ‘Yudh Pradarshan’, ‘Shaurya Gatha’, and ‘Vijayotsav’, celebrating legendary figures such as Lord RamChhatrapati Shivaji, and freedom fighters like Mangal Pandey and Bhagat Singh.Before the Gaurav Gatha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will engage with ‘veer nari’ (brave women) and veterans over tea. He will also unveil an app and lay the foundation stone for an Army Paralympic Node virtually.

Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15, commemorating the transition of command from British Army officer General Sir Francis Butcher to Indian Army officer Lieutenant General KM Cariappa in 1949. This day honors the valor and sacrifices of Indian soldiers while marking the transfer of power from colonial rulers to Indian leadership. Lieutenant General Cariappa, hailing from Karnataka, was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief and one of only two recipients of the title Field Marshal of India, alongside Sam Manekshaw.
