Pune Municipal Corporation Recovers ₹9 Crore in Pending Property Tax Within Three Days

The Tax Assessment and Collection Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has successfully collected ₹9,00,22,612 in property tax arrears between December 2 and December 4, 2024. This impressive figure is part of the PMC’s ongoing efforts to meet its revenue targets for the financial year 2024-25.To enhance the recovery of outstanding dues, the department has intensified its initiatives, forming special recovery teams, including band squads, to streamline the process. These dedicated teams carried out operations across 15 regional offices, visiting 154 properties with pending dues.
As a result of these efforts, not only was the significant amount collected, but 19 properties were also sealed during this drive, demonstrating the PMC’s commitment to enforcing tax compliance.Currently, the PMC oversees approximately 14.8 lakh properties within its jurisdiction. So far, 8.73 lakh property owners have paid a total of ₹1,798 crore in taxes. However, many defaulters remain, and the PMC plans to take further recovery actions in the coming months to ensure compliance and increase revenue.Madhav Jagtap, head of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department at PMC, urges property owners who have yet to settle their dues to act promptly.
He emphasizes that timely payments will help avoid penalties or potential legal actions, reinforcing the importance of fulfilling tax obligations.The PMC remains committed to enhancing its revenue collection processes and ensuring that all property owners contribute their fair share to the city’s development. With ongoing efforts to recover outstanding dues, the department aims to bolster its financial standing and enhance public services for the citizens of Pune.
