Police Detain 18 BJP Protesters Outside Congress Bhavan in Pune

Tension flared outside Congress Bhavan as BJP workers staged a protest against city Congress chief Arvind Shinde for his remarks against city BJP chief Dhiraj Ghate. The police intervened to control the situation and detained 18 BJP workers as a preventive measure. The conflict stemmed from hoardings put up by BJP’s Pune city president Dhiraj Ghate, criticizing Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments about Hindus.
In response, Shinde made a statement condemning the banners and questioning Ghate’s right to speak against the Congress, alleging that Ghate required police security due to his actions. In the evening, BJP party workers gathered outside Congress Bhavan to protest against Shinde’s statements. Dhiraj Ghate expressed the BJP’s intention to respond to Congress leaders in a similar manner and indicated their plan to take legal action against Shinde. Police officials confirmed the preventive detention of some BJP workers to prevent potential clashes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill stated that the individuals were detained under specific sections of the Bombay Police Act as a precautionary measure and were later released. This incident underscores the escalating tensions between the two political parties and the need for maintaining peace and order in such situations.
