The construction and management of the Nagpur airport will now be shared among the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), and the GMR Group.
In contrast, the Amravati and Shirdi airports will be exclusively managed by the MADC as a joint venture, while GMR will implement its work at the Nagpur airport in a phased manner. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been a driving force behind the development of the Amravati and Shirdi airports, which are personal projects of his.The appointment of Swati Pandey as Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of MADC has proven beneficial, as she has successfully resolved significant issues within MIHAN and made notable progress on the Amravati and Shirdi airports.
Her regular visits to Nagpur and Amravati have accelerated momentum on numerous projects, including those related to Patanjali. The Public Works Department originally constructed the airstrip at Amravati in 1992, which was later managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in 1997 before being transferred to the MADC, marking a significant evolution in the region’s aviation infrastructure.
