Operation Sindoor: Orange Alert Issued as Pune Military Hospitals Heighten Vigilance

Military hospitals in Pune have heightened vigilance and implemented measures to address a potential critical situation following the Orange alert issued in response to Operation Sindoor on Wednesday. This alert calls for authorities to “Be Prepared,” prompting increased security around the three major Armed Forces hospitals in the area.Security has been enhanced at the Command Hospital, Southern Command; Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences; and Military Hospital, Kirkee, with additional surveillance and monitoring of personnel and patients. Informed sources noted that the transition to heightened security has been smooth, thanks to the establishment of a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Strict security protocols are in place, including thorough identity verification for personnel in uniform, and disaster drills are being conducted both day and night to ensure readiness.Pune is home to three prominent Armed Forces hospitals, which provide a wide range of medical services. The Artificial Limb Centre, a tri-services institution, specializes in providing prosthetic limbs to soldiers injured in combat. Additionally, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), also located in Pune, is a leading medical institute that trains graduate, post-graduate, and post-doctoral medical and nursing students.
An Orange alert signifies a high likelihood of a significant security threat or disaster, prompting heightened security protocols and proactive emergency response preparations. As part of these measures, random security checks are being conducted across hospital premises. The SOP outlines the responsibilities of each staff member across various departments, including first aid and MRI units. In anticipation of a potential increase in casualties, the SOP includes a crisis bed expansion management plan to accommodate a surge in patient load. Additionally, doctors are required to be on call at all times, and military hospital authorities are coordinating with civic agencies to ensure an adequate stock of medical supplies.
ICU facilities are also maintained to effectively manage serious cases.Dr. Dilip Bhanushali, national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), expressed solidarity with the Centre regarding Operation Sindoor. He stated, “With 400,000 members across 1,800 local branches and 32 state branches, the entire medical fraternity at IMA stands ready to serve the country in this critical hour. We are fully prepared to provide all necessary healthcare services and are committed to supporting our Armed Forces and government agencies to ensure the health and safety of the nation.”
