NMC Anti-Encroachment Department Clears Unauthorized Basement Shops at Poonam Chambers

The civic body after its election seems to be going great guns ever after the new team came into power. Many of the areas are now coming under its garb. Many of the illegal constructions have been smashed out. On Thursday, February 5, the Anti-Encroachment Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) took decisive action against alleged unauthorized construction at Poonam Chambers.
As per reports, the officials began removing goods and materials from shops operating in the basement area of the building, specifically from Poonam Bazar.Civic authorities highlighted that the basement was being used for commercial activities in violation of approved building regulations.
The enforcement team’s clearance of stocked items marks the initial phase of broader measures to curb unauthorized use of the space.This operation is part of NMC’s extensive citywide anti-encroachment campaign aimed at restoring pedestrian spaces and eliminating illegal roadside structures.

Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the NMC Enforcement Department has deployed 15 dedicated teams for ongoing enforcement activities 10 teams working zone-wise and 5 central teams supporting large-scale clearance efforts in heavily encroached areas.

Emphasis on Pedestrian Safety and Traffic Flow

Unauthorized stalls and goods spilling onto footpaths have obstructed large stretches across the city, posing challenges and safety risks for pedestrians. The campaign seeks to reclaim these public pathways, improving pedestrian movement and alleviating traffic congestion.
