New Terminal at Pune Airport to Begin Operations on 14th July

Pune Airport is thrilled to announce the operationalization of the New Integrated Terminal Building on 14.07.2024 (Sunday) in the esteemed presence of Sh. Murlidhar Mohol, Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, with a focus on enhancing the passenger experience. Commencing from 14.07.2024, two airlines – Air India and Air India Express – will operate from the New Building. The first flight to depart from Pune airport will be Air India Flight AI – 858 (Pune –Delhi), marking a significant milestone. Sh. Murlidhar Mohol, Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, will facilitate the first passenger by presenting them with the boarding pass. Subsequently, other airlines operating at Pune Airport will transition to the New Building in a phased manner.
The existing Terminal Building, with a built-up area of 22,000 Sqm., has the capacity to handle up to Seven Million Passengers per annum (MPPA). In contrast, the new terminal building of Pune Airport, with a substantial built-up area of over 52,000 sq. m., is designed to accommodate up to 09 Million Passengers per annum (MPPA), catering to the escalating air traffic demands.The state-of-the-art new building will feature centralized air conditioning and provision for an additional five passenger boarding bridges, raising the count to ten. This enhancement will ensure convenient and hassle-free passenger movement from the terminal building to the aircraft. Furthermore, the facility will house a total of 34 Check-in Counters and 25 Self Check-in counters, streamlining the check-in process for travelers.
Also, the introduction of the In-Line Hold Baggage Handling System (ILHBS) will revolutionize the check-in process with its automated system and multiple levels of security screening. Integrated with the airport Baggage Handling System (BHS), the in-line baggage system, equipped with scanners, will facilitate a complete hold baggage processing and screening mechanism, allowing passengers to bypass queues near X-ray machines before check-in. The ILHBS, equipped with advanced technology, will significantly increase airport capacity, ensuring faster passenger flow, higher throughput, and elevated service levels.The new building will prioritize energy efficiency, boasting a Four-Star GRIHA rating. It will also reserve 915 sq. m. for F&B and 1206 sq. m. for retail outlets, providing passengers with opportunities for refreshment and pleasure.
