Pune Metro Successfully Conducts Trial Run on Line 3 up to Balewadi

On Wednesday, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Pune Metro’s Line 3 (Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar) completed a successful trial run from Mann Depot to Balewadi Stadium, covering the Pune Metro Region (PMR) station 10.This follows an earlier trial run held on July 4, which ran between Mann Depot and PMR 4 (Wipro) station.
A Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) official, speaking anonymously, said, “Today’s successful run marks a significant milestone. The Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro completed its first trial from Mann Depot to Balewadi Stadium station at a speed of 40 km/h. The project is now 87% complete, and we aim to finish the entire 23.3-km route by March 2026.”Line 3 of Pune Metro stretches over 23.3 kilometers and includes 23 stations.
Developed through a public-private partnership between PMRDA and Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd (PITCMRL), the metro will feature fully air-conditioned 3-coach trains capable of carrying up to 1,000 passengers and reaching speeds of 80 km/h. Once operational, this line is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Pune’s IT-centric areas. The new metro line will connect key IT hubs like Hinjewadi with central Pune, providing a fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to road transport.
This is particularly crucial as Pune continues to grow as a major IT and commercial center, with daily commuter traffic steadily increasing. The metro’s integration with other existing lines will enhance connectivity across the city, making daily travel seamless for thousands of commuters.
Authorities have also emphasized passenger safety and convenience, with plans to implement advanced signaling systems, barrier-free access, and modern amenities at stations. The successful trial run is a positive indicator that the project is moving steadily toward completion, promising to transform Pune’s urban transport landscape in the near future.
