PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate 23.2-km Pune Metro Line 3 Elevated Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the 23.2-km Pune Metro Line 3 (Pink Line) connecting Maan and Hinjewadi IT Park to Shivajinagar on November 3, 2026. Commercial passenger operations on the elevated route will commence on November 4. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹8,313 crore—inclusive of land acquisition and utility relocation—the line marks India’s first metro project executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) Public-Private Partnership model under the National Metro Rail Policy, 2017.
The inauguration event, hosted at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, will be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar. Details were announced at the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) headquarters by PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) CEO Anilkumar Saini. PITCMRL, a special purpose vehicle formed by TRIL Urban Transport and Siemens Project Ventures, serves as the concessionaire.
Initial commercial operations will cover 17 of the corridor’s 23 stations. Ten key stations—including Hinjewadi Phase 1, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi, and Savitribai Phule Pune University—will open with full dual-staircase entry points, while seven will operate with single-staircase access. Construction on Stations 13 and 14 is slated for completion by late November 2026, with the remaining stations opening in phases by January 2027. The line seamlessly integrates with Maha Metro’s existing Line 1 (Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate) and Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi).
The corridor successfully passed safety evaluations by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and received full approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) in September 2026. Metro services will operate at 6-minute intervals during peak hours and 12-minute intervals during off-peak times. The final daily train from Maan toward District Court will depart at 10:30 PM, while the return service leaves at 11:40 PM. A unified mobile application has also been launched to enable integrated ticketing across both Pune Metro networks.
