Nagpur Joins Mass Cleanliness Drive, Championing ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’
In a spirited effort to transform Nagpur into a clean, green, and healthy city, citizens united on Sunday for a large-scale cleanliness drive as part of the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign. Organized by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the initiative witnessed an impressive turnout of local volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to clean various areas throughout the city. The drive was spearheaded by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, along with Additional Commissioners Mrs. Anchal Goyal and Mr. Ajay Charathankar.
This initiative aligns with the Central Government’s nationwide cleanliness campaign, inspiring hundreds of residents from all ten municipal zones to engage in voluntary labour, known as shramdaan, to contribute to the cause. Mrs. Anchal Goyal took an active role in the cleanup, sweeping the streets around Shantinagar MHADA Colony in the Satranjipura zone and engaging with residents to encourage ongoing cleanliness in their neighborhoods. The initiative also saw participation from senior officials, assistant commissioners, executive engineers, and zonal sanitation officers, all working hand-in-hand with citizens to restore the cleanliness of the streets.
Several non-governmental organizations, including the Ploggers Group, Green Vigil Foundation, Tejaswini Leaders Club, and King Cobra Organization, played crucial roles in the campaign, targeting various locations throughout the city. Notable areas cleaned included the jail complex in Laxminagar, the stretch from Maharajbagh Chowk to Library Cement Road in Dharampeth, and Chhota Tajbagh in Nehru Nagar. Volunteers tirelessly removed fallen leaves, branches, and debris, leaving the streets immaculate.
Additionally, the NMC, supported by sanitation brand ambassadors and officers, conducted awareness initiatives to discourage littering and promote long-term cleanliness. The campaign garnered enthusiastic support from residents, students, and local organizations, showcasing a collective commitment to cultivating a cleaner and greener Nagpur.
