Family Accuses Negligence After PMPML Bus Fatally Hits 21-Year-Old

The police initiated a first information report (FIR) following the tragic death of a 21-year-old man who was involved in an accident with a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand in Pulgate on June 13. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the victim, identified as Yash Vishnu Kasbekar, was caught under the wheels of the public transport utility bus as the driver was reversing the vehicle. According to the police, the family of the deceased was initially in a state of shock, which delayed the filing of the police complaint by a week.
Family members reported that Yash remained trapped under the bus for thirty minutes as no one came forward to assist him. The driver of the AC electric bus (MH-12 TV3814), identified as Swapnil Kaluram Jagtap, 32, of Purandar, has been charged with rash and negligent driving.An eyewitness informed the police that the victim remained trapped under the bus due to the driver’s inaction, highlighting the absence of PMPML staff and security guards at the bus stand during the incident.
Poornima Bhosale, a relative of the deceased, held the PMPML administration accountable for the tragedy and urged for stringent action against PMPML drivers, management, and security guards.The incident has sparked a call for accountability and measures to ensure the safety of commuters in the wake of such accidents involving PMPML buses. The tragic loss of life has underscored the need for enhanced safety protocols and vigilance within the public transport system to prevent similar incidents in the future.
