City-Wide Noise Monitoring Initiated for Ganpati Immersion in Pune
As Pune gears up to bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa on Tuesday, September 17, in celebration of Anant Chaturdashi, the city is intensifying its noise monitoring efforts. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) will conduct separate noise level assessments across 25 locations in Pune. The MPCB will oversee noise levels throughout the city, while CoEP will focus on monitoring areas around Lakshmi Road and its vicinity.
High noise levels are expected in key areas such as Kothrud, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Camp, Kondhwa, Sahakarnagar, and Swargate. In response, Pune Samvad, a local citizens’ group, is urging residents to measure noise levels in their neighborhoods and report any excessive noise by calling 112. This initiative aims to empower authorities to take swift action against violations. An official from the MPCB stated, “Our team will monitor noise levels at 15 key locations, particularly along the procession routes. Depending on the circumstances, we may expand the number of monitoring sites. The assessment will take place from 7 am on Tuesday to 8 am on Wednesday.
Our officers and outsourced staff will be positioned at designated locations to track noise levels. If any Ganesh mandals exceed the permissible noise limits, our officers will intervene and alert police officials. Non-compliant mandals will face actions in accordance with National Green Tribunal (NGT) regulations.”This coordinated effort highlights the city’s dedication to managing noise pollution during the Ganpati immersion festivities while ensuring public peace and safety.
