CID Submits Detailed 425-Page Chargesheet in Ram Jhula Flyover Accident, Names Maloo, Husband & Associates

On Monday, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a comprehensive 425-page chargesheet in the magistrate court against Ritika Maloo, her husband Dinesh, and co-passenger Madhuri Sarda, in connection with the tragic Ram Jhula flyover accident that resulted in the deaths of two young men on February 25. Due to the CID missing the 60-day deadline to file the chargesheet, Ritika has been granted default bail. The investigation is ongoing, with CID officials currently drafting special reports against the Tehsil police, who were initially handling the case.If convicted, Ritika could face imprisonment under Section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a potential sentence exceeding nine years, minus the time she has already spent in Nagpur Central Jail, from which she was released on
November 26. Legal experts familiar with the case believe there is a strong likelihood of conviction, as courts have typically favored the evidence presented, although they have often denied custody on technical grounds.Ritika was accused of fatally striking Mohd Atif and Mohd Hussain Mustafa while driving her black Mercedes recklessly under the influence of alcohol shortly after leaving CP Club with Sarda. The Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) confirmed the presence of alcohol in Ritika’s blood, prompting the Tehsil police to apply the non-bailable Section 304 (II) for culpable homicide.
Additionally, charges of destruction of evidence were filed against Dinesh for aiding Ritika’s escape from the scene, which delayed her arrest and subsequent blood testing for alcohol.CID officials emphasized that the chargesheet is built on robust technical, scientific, and corroborative evidence against Ritika, whose anticipatory bail was denied by the high court. The case, initially registered at the Tehsil police station, was later transferred to the CID due to concerns over a flawed investigation.
The police’s actions have been scrutinized for significant oversights, including allowing Ritika and Madhuri to leave the scene and releasing the black Mercedes despite pending charges. Key elements of the chargesheet include blood alcohol level reports and CCTV footage from critical locations. The CID has also secured statements from two eyewitnesses in the presence of a magistrate and gathered additional footage from various sources.
