Disturbing Incident at Mayo Hospital Triggers Outrage Among Medical Interns

Nagpur: A deeply unsettling incident at Mayo Hospital has ignited widespread anger among medical interns after a female intern was allegedly subjected to an obscene act by a sanitation worker inside a hospital lift on Monday morning.The accused, identified as Manohar Natthulal Samudre, a 52-year-old resident of Adarsh Nagar, Mankapur, reportedly committed the act around 10:30 am.
The intern, who recently graduated and is currently undergoing her internship, entered a lift near the Operation Theatre in the Surgical Complex to reach Ward No. 36 on the second floor. Samudre, who was carrying some belongings, was en route to the fourth floor.During the lift ride, he allegedly removed his clothing and engaged in an obscene act in front of the intern.
Shocked and distressed, the intern exited the lift as soon as the doors opened on the second floor and ran down the stairs, where she immediately reported the incident to her fellow interns.A swift search was launched, and the accused was located near the hospital’s outer premises. The interns detained him and handed him over to the police. A case has since been registered by Tehsil police based on the intern’s complaint.
This alarming incident has sparked outrage among the hospital’s interns, many of whom have expressed strong criticism regarding the administration’s failure to ensure safety and security within the premises. Interns have called for better protective measures and more robust protocols to safeguard their well-being while on duty. The incident raises serious questions about the safety of healthcare workers, particularly female interns, in hospital environments. Immediate action and accountability are being demanded from hospital authorities to prevent such incidents in the future.
