NDS Imposes ₹2.86 Lakh in Fines During Public Cleanliness Campaign
The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) is intensifying its efforts to maintain cleanliness in public spaces. On November 4, they apprehended 119 individuals for various offenses, including urinating, littering, spitting, and using thin plastic bags, resulting in a total fine of ₹286,000.Among those fined, 27 street vendors—including those with handcarts, stalls, paan kiosks, hawkers, and vegetable sellers—were penalized a total of ₹10,800 for littering in public areas.
Also, an amount of INR 800 was collected from 8 cases involving waste dumping on public roads, footpaths, and open spaces. Shopkeepers faced fines of ₹2,400 across 6 cases for discarding rubbish in public spaces, while ₹4,000 was levied in 2 cases against malls, cafes, hotels, cinema halls, marriage halls, and caterers for similar violations.
Under the leadership of NDS chief Veersen Tambe, the squad addressed 37 cases involving temporary structures like tents and stages that obstructed roads, imposing fines totaling ₹40,000. They also issued ₹1,000 fines for tying animals in public areas and ₹10,000 fines to medical professionals for improperly disposing of biomedical waste with regular trash.
The drive targeted various locations for waste management violations, with fines including ₹5,000 for hotels improperly discarding waste in Dharampeth, ₹5,000 for plastic bag usage in Godhni (Dhantoli), ₹10,000 for improper organic waste disposal in Nehru Nagar, ₹5,000 for plastic bag use in Gandhibagh and Satrangipura, and ₹25,000 for dumping rubbish on the road in Lakadganj.
