Pune Experiences a Slight Chill as Minimum Temperature Drops to 15.2°C

As winter approaches, Pune city is witnessing a notable decline in nighttime temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius on November 7, while areas such as NDA and Loni Kalbhor experienced even cooler temperatures, dropping to 13 degrees Celsius.
The falling mercury levels have ushered in a distinct winter atmosphere, characterized by chilly nights and fog that blankets the city late at night and early in the morning. Just a few weeks ago, on October 26, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 16.7 degrees Celsius. Following that, temperatures gradually rose, peaking at 19.9 degrees Celsius on November 1. However, from November 1 to 7, the minimum temperature plummeted to 15.2 degrees Celsius, which is below the seasonal average, as indicated by IMD data.
The outskirts of Pune also reported significant drops, with some areas logging temperatures as low as 13 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature has also seen a slight decrease, with a recorded high of 33.1 degrees Celsius on November 1, which fell to 31.9 degrees Celsius by November 7. IMD officials attribute this temperature fluctuation to the westward movement of the remnants of Cyclone Dana, which initially raised temperatures. However, with the moisture levels in the atmosphere decreasing and no active weather systems over Maharashtra, the region is now experiencing dry conditions and cooler temperatures.
Meanwhile, air quality in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad remains at a moderate level. The overall air quality index (AQI) in Pune was noted at 127, with several areas like Nigadi, Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Karve Road, Katraj Dairy, and Wakad reporting AQI levels above 100, according to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology’s Air Quality Early Warning System. Experts anticipate a further decline in air quality in the coming 24 hours.
