Three-Day Toll Waiver Announced on Mumbai-Pune Expressway for Ekvira Aai Yatra

Devotees traveling for the annual Lonavala Ekvira Aai Yatra will receive a significant boost this week, as a three-day toll waiver has been announced for the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The pilgrimage, which is a major event for the Agri-Koli community, is taking place from Tuesday, March 24, to Thursday, March 26, 2026.
How to Avail the Waiver
The toll exemption was arranged by NCP MP Suresh Mhatre (also known as Balya Mama) after personal discussions with toll authorities. However, the waiver is not automatic. To benefit from this relief, pilgrims must follow these steps:
- Carry the Approval Letter: Devotees are required to present a physical consent/waiver letter issued by MP Mhatre’s office at the toll booths.
- Present to Authorities: Showing this letter will allow vehicles to pass without the standard toll deduction.
MP Mhatre emphasized that his priority is to ensure safe and affordable travel for the thousands of devotees who often face financial strain or long delays at toll plazas during the festival.
Security and Crowd Management
To handle the massive influx of pilgrims at the Karla caves and temple area, the Maval administration and rural police have implemented strict safety measures:
- CCTV Surveillance: Tahsildar Vikram Deshmukh and local police will monitor the crowds in real-time.
- Traffic Restrictions: Heavy vehicles are banned on the Karla Fata to Gadhpaitha Additionally, flower and garland stalls have been moved to clear the main walking routes.
- Safety Bans: To prevent accidents on the hill, the use of firecrackers has been strictly prohibited.
- Old Highway Diversions: Traffic on the old Mumbai-Pune highway will be restricted to prioritize the smooth movement of the religious procession.
These combined efforts—the toll waiver and the enhanced security—aim to provide a hassle-free experience for the devotees coming from Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad to seek the blessings of Ekvira Aai.
