Road Rage Incident: Motorist Assaults Woman Riding with Children in Pune; Booked

In an unfortunate incident of road rage, a woman riding a two-wheeler with two children was assaulted by a motorist in Pune city after she advised him to drive responsibly, according to the police on July 21.The attack took place on Saturday at Baner-Pashan Link Road, and a case has been registered against the 57-year-old man and his wife, stated an official.The victim, Jerlyn Dsilva, a marketing head at a luxury hotel in Pune, shared a video of the incident on social media, which showed her bleeding profusely from her nose.

In another video, Ms. Dsilva explained that she was riding towards Baner with the two children when a man in a car refused to give her way.“While I was on my bike with the two kids, the elderly man driving the car did not allow me to proceed. I advised him to drive properly. In response, he lowered his car window and verbally abused me,” she said.According to Ms. Dsilva, after she managed to overtake the car, the driver began tailing her and eventually blocked her path, forcing her to stop on the side of the road. 

She alleged in the video, “The man parked his car, obstructing my way, got out in anger, grabbed my shirt, and punched me in the face three to four times.”Ms. Dsilva further claimed that when she tried to take the car keys to prevent the man from fleeing, his wife, who was inside the car, also assaulted her. Bystanders intervened during the altercation, and Ms. Dsilva was taken to a hospital. The police were subsequently informed about the incident. An official from Chatustringi police station stated that the couple has been booked under the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
