Pune Weather Update: Will It Rain Today? Check Area-Wise Alerts and Forecast Details

Pune experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday, resulting in widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion throughout the city. Commuters were stranded for hours as major roads, including those in Hinjawadi, Sinhagad Road, and Warje, reported significant gridlocks. The newly-opened Sinhagad Road Flyover also faced heavy traffic, while reports of road collapses emerged from Warje and Satara Road.According to official rainfall data recorded on May 21, various areas in Pune experienced varying levels of rainfall:

Rain Alert for the Coming Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune for the next 48 hours (May 20 and May 21), warning residents of intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, noted that this alert extends to the ghat regions of Pune and Satara, where isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the next 4-5 days.Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai and the Konkan region, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms for the next four days. An orange alert has also been issued for Pune, Raigad, and Nashik, indicating the potential for extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

Residents are advised to stay informed with the latest weather updates and exercise caution, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.Weather expert Vineet Kumar shared that thunderstorms are anticipated today but are expected to be less severe than yesterday’s conditions. He mentioned that no rain is expected until at least 2:30 PM, after which thunderstorms may develop. Areas such as Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, Wakad, and Hinjewadi are also forecasted to experience thunderstorms later in the day, with the intensity expected to be lower than previous days. In the Deccan area, some rain is anticipated in the evening, although less intense than the previous day.
