Pune Police Unveil Year-Long Roadmap to Enhance Campus Discipline and Safety

On Wednesday, the Pune City Police launched a comprehensive year-long plan aimed at improving campus safety and discipline in response to rising concerns over issues like drunk driving, drug use, cyber security threats, and women’s safety among students. The initiative, a collaboration between educational institutions and various police departments, will run from November 2025 through December 2026 in its first phase.

Unveiled at the Secure Horizons in Education 2025 event, led by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the program kicks off immediately with preparations including the nomination of student ambassadors from colleges and a three-day orientation workshop scheduled for November and December.Key activities planned for 2026 include:

  • January–February:Road Safety Week, in partnership with traffic police, featuring over 100 street plays citywide to raise awareness.
  • March–April:Gender Safety and Sensitisation program, coordinated with the Women’s Safety Cell, including safety circles and workshops.
  • June–July:Say No To Drugs campaign, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Cell, featuring a city-level contest.
  • August–September:Mental Health Month, working alongside mental health experts, with initiatives such as peer listening corners.
  • October:Cyber Safety Activities, in partnership with the police cyber cell, including campus cyber audits.

November will focus on evaluating the program and distributing awards, while December will involve expansion efforts, mentoring, and preparation of a new cohort plan for the following year.During the event, Commissioner Kumar addressed recent incidents of student indiscipline that had tarnished Pune’s image, including the Pune Porsche case, fresher’s party controversies, the Kharadi drug party, and the Moze Engineering College paper leak.

He remarked, “These incidents over the past year to year-and-a-half highlight where we stand and challenge the reputation of Pune as the ‘Oxford of the East.’ We must address these issues to reclaim that title and ensure such disruptions no longer cause concern among Pune’s residents.” Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us and if you have anything to share do comment below.
