Pune Labour Commissioner Summons TCS Over Alleged Illegal Layoffs and Termination Complaints

The Pune Labour Commissioner’s office has issued summons to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) following multiple complaints filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) concerning alleged illegal terminations and unlawful layoffs. The hearing is set for November 18, 2025.

Complaints from TCS Employees Across Locations

NITES shared on X that it has received numerous grievances from TCS employees nationwide involving abrupt terminations, forced resignations, denial of statutory dues, and coercive employment practices. “After reviewing these complaints and supporting evidence, NITES helped affected employees file formal grievances with the appropriate authorities,” the organization stated.

Call for Employees to Assert Their Rights

NITES urged any employees facing similar issues to come forward. “If you have experienced wrongful termination, forced resignation, withheld dues, or any unfair treatment, you are protected by law,” it emphasized in the post. The group reaffirmed its commitment to assisting IT and ITES employees in navigating legal processes and filing complaints.

TCS Announces 2% Global Workforce Reduction

Earlier, TCS announced plans to lay off approximately 2% of its global workforce during the 2025-26 financial year, amounting to roughly 12,000 employees. The company’s headcount declined by 19,755 in Q2 FY26, bringing the total employee strength to 613,069 as per its October 9 earnings release. This followed a sequential increase of 5,090 employees in the previous quarter. This marks TCS’s second consecutive year of workforce reduction, following its first-ever headcount drop in FY24 since going public in 2004. This contraction contrasts sharply with the company’s rapid expansion in recent years, which included adding 22,600 employees in FY23 and a record 103,000 in FY22.

The upcoming hearing and ongoing complaints highlight growing tensions amid TCS’s workforce downsizing, with employee rights and corporate practices under close scrutiny.
