A 20-year-old courier employee has been arrested in Pune for allegedly stealing gold and silver jewellery valued at ₹90.33 lakh that he was tasked with delivering to Mumbai.

The accused, Vishal Satyapal Chauhan, a native of Uttar Pradesh employed at the courier company’s Mumbai branch, was assigned to transport the consignment from Pune on August 5. The firm specializes in handling secure deliveries of cash and precious metals across six cities.

The incident was uncovered after company representative Jitendra Hrishikesh Singh filed a complaint at the Khadak police station when Chauhan failed to arrive at the Mumbai office. Singh, leveraging his contacts with long-distance bus operators along the route, contacted a bus conductor who revealed that Chauhan had exited the bus under the Wakad bridge in Pune with the valuables instead of continuing the journey to Mumbai.

Following up on the lead, the Khadak police tracked Chauhan down and apprehended him at Rashtrabhushan Chowk in Ghorpade Peth, Pune. Law enforcement officials have recovered the stolen consignment and are investigating the case further to determine if the suspect acted with accomplices.
