Pune Airport Chaos: Microsoft Outage Forces Manual Check-Ins, Delays Flights

The global outage of Microsoft has had a significant impact on flight operations at Pune airport, leading to long queues and delays. Manual and slower check-ins have become necessary due to the technical issue, causing inconvenience for passengers. Santosh Dhoke, the director of Pune airport, confirmed that the problem had affected the facility. He stated that IndiGo, which operates the maximum number of flights in Pune, was conducting manual check-ins. Additional manpower has been deployed to handle the situation, and efforts are being made to keep the situation under control. The airport witnesses a total of 190 flight movements, with 102 of them belonging to IndiGo alone on Friday. Airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa, Air India Express, Vistara, Air India, and Air Asia have informed passengers about the problem and its impact on their operations through social media platforms.
IndiGo, for example, issued a statement on X, stating, “As systems are impacted globally due to ongoing issues with Microsoft Azure, we kindly request you to refrain from making multiple booking attempts during this time. We are working closely with Microsoft to resolve the issue and appreciate your patience.”Passengers have expressed their frustration with the situation. One flyer recounted their experience at the IndiGo check-in counter, where they encountered a long queue and a slow check-in process. After approximately 40 minutes, they received their boarding pass, which had been manually prepared. The delayed check-ins resulted in long queues and chaos during the security check as well. However, the flyer managed to reach their destination on time despite the challenges.
All airlines have assured passengers that they are actively working to resolve the issue. Passengers have been advised to arrive at the airport early to avoid major hassles. Adarsh Kumar, a resident of Vimannagar, shared that he received a text message from the airline informing him about the problem and advising him to arrive early. Consequently, he plans to leave for the airport an hour earlier than originally planned to ensure a smooth journey.
