Pune Accident: Techie Who Killed Parking Attendant Remanded to 2-Day Police Custody

A Pune court on Monday remanded Pratap Daingade (49), an IT professional from Nerul, Navi Mumbai, to two days of police custody. Daingade is accused of ramming his car into the valet counter at Toit restaurant in Kalyaninagar on Sunday afternoon, killing 30-year-old parking attendant Satyendra Mandal.Daingade was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), where police requested five days’ custody for detailed interrogation.
After hearing arguments, the court granted police custody until December 3. Advocate Angad Singh Gill represented the original complainant.According to the remand application, police said further investigation is needed to determine Daingade’s motive, including whether he acted out of anger after being escorted out of the restaurant. Authorities also aim to verify the amount and location of alcohol consumption and check for any other intoxicants.Police informed the court that Daingade’s mobile phone must be seized and examined.
The remand plea stated that despite knowing the dangers of drunk driving, Daingade ignored warnings from the complainant and restaurant staff moments before the crash, which occurred in front of multiple witnesses. The FIR includes sections 105, 281, and 185(B) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, along with sections 184, 185, and 119/117 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The collision happened around 3 pm Sunday when Daingade allegedly reversed his Volkswagen at high speed, then suddenly accelerated forward into the valet counter where Mandal was stationed. The impact trapped Mandal between the vehicle and the structure, causing fatal internal injuries; he died on the spot. Videos of the incident quickly circulated on social media.Senior police inspector Anjum Bagwan of Yerawada police station said Daingade had consumed a beer inside the restaurant and was causing a disturbance. “Staff escorted him out, which appears to have angered him.
He then got into his car, reversed, and surged forward into the valet counter,” Bagwan explained.Restaurant staff confirmed Daingade was served only one beer. A preliminary medical examination detected alcohol in his system. In a statement, Toit management said: “We are extremely saddened by the tragic accident outside our restaurant around 3 pm, resulting in the loss of our colleague, Satyendra Mandal. We are cooperating fully with authorities to ensure justice.”Yerawada police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and forensic evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
