NMC Launches Month-Long Drive to Seal or Demolish 100 Non-Compliant Buildings
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated a month-long crackdown targeting unauthorized constructions, illegal land-use changes, and fire safety non-compliance across the city. Running from August 8 to September 8, the “NMC in Action Mode” campaign aims to seal or demolish at least 100 violating structures across Nagpur’s 10 municipal zones.
The enforcement initiative was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Neeta Thakre at the Standing Committee Hall on Saturday. Municipal leadership directed officials from each zone to identify a minimum of 10 priority non-compliant establishments for immediate action. Targeted properties include commercial malls, business complexes, hospitals, godowns, coaching institutes, and bars.
To streamline enforcement and eliminate administrative delays, Mayor Thakre instructed the formation of joint task forces comprising representatives from the Fire, Zonal, Enforcement, and Town Planning departments, supported by local police when necessary. These inter-departmental teams will inspect physical structures against their original sanctioned building plans to verify structural modifications and safety compliance.
Under the campaign guidelines, task forces will submit photo-documented field reports tracking ownership, layout violations, and fire safety systems. Properties sealed due to critical fire safety hazards will be granted temporary access solely for installing mandated equipment; commercial operations will remain suspended until full regulatory clearance is secured. Additionally, the civic administration plans to conduct public awareness campaigns regarding building permissions alongside the ongoing enforcement drive.
