NMC Declares Silent Zone in Ramdaspeth Following High Court Orders

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially designated parts of Ramdaspeth as a Silent Zone, following directives from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. This decision complies with Section 452A (1-A) and (1-B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, relevant Government Resolutions, and the High Court’s ruling in Writ Petition No. 4959/2024 dated September 30, 2024.
According to a notification issued by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, areas within a 100-metre radius of three critical institutions in Ramdaspeth have been included in the Silent Zone. These are Sheshrao Wankhede Vidyaniketan School (Mor Hindi) Playground, Arneja Heart Hospital, and Bisne Hospital — all identified as highly sensitive to noise disturbances. The NMC received the court’s communication on October 15, 2025, and quickly moved to issue the notification to ensure full compliance.
Strict Monitoring and Legal Action for Violations
The High Court had earlier instructed the police to rigorously monitor noise levels during public events such as Dandiya celebrations and to enforce all relevant guidelines. Organisers were mandated to hire independent monitoring agencies to continuously record sound levels during festivities, while police were tasked with conducting regular inspections. The court warned that any breach of noise regulations would result in strict legal action.
This Silent Zone declaration aims to protect schools and hospitals in Ramdaspeth by enforcing tighter noise control and reducing exposure to harmful noise pollution in the area.
