NH7 Weekender in Pune Cancelled After Police Deny Permission

The much-anticipated NH7 Weekender music festival, scheduled for December 14 and 15 in Pune, has been canceled following a denial of permission from the Pimpri Chinchwad police. Authorities cited concerns over potential law and order issues, as well as severe traffic congestion that could arise from the event.Set to take place at Teerth Fields in Sus, the festival was expected to showcase an impressive lineup of artists, featuring renowned Indian musicians such as Amit Trivedi, Usha Uthup, and Raftaar, alongside international talents like Jorja Smith and DJ Craze.
The cancellation has left many fans and attendees deeply disappointed. In a statement shared on social media platform X, the NH7 Weekender team expressed their disheartenment: “We are extremely saddened to inform you that NH7 Weekender 2024 will no longer take place on December 14-15 due to law and order restrictions in Pune. Despite our best efforts to resolve the situation and having everything ready for the gates to open, it ultimately remained beyond our control.”Sandeep Doiphode, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch), elaborated on the decision, stating that the police were concerned about the potential for law and order problems and traffic disruption.
Also, he indicated that legal action could be taken against the organizers if they proceeded with the event despite the police’s warning. This turn of events underscores the challenges faced by large-scale events in urban settings, where logistical and security considerations often dictate the feasibility of public gatherings. The NH7 Weekender has become a staple in India’s music festival scene, and its absence this year marks a significant loss for both artists and fans alike.
