Nagpur’s Aapli Bus Sets New Record with 1.54 Lakh Nagpurians Riding in a Single Day

On Tuesday, July 15, Nagpur’s Aapli Bus service made history by welcoming an unprecedented 1,54,728 commuters—the highest single-day ridership ever recorded for the city’s public transport system.This surge in passengers also brought significant financial gains, with fare revenue reaching ₹28.88 lakh. Impressively, 29% of this revenue came from digital payments, highlighting Nagpur’s rapid shift toward cashless transit.
Notably, UPI transactions alone contributed 15%, reflecting growing adoption of tech-savvy payment methods among commuters.Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari praised this achievement as a “milestone for public mobility,” congratulating the transport team on their efforts.
Following the record day, he inspected a new passenger counting system currently active on 30 buses and ordered its expansion across the entire fleet to better monitor ridership.Student ridership is also on the rise, thanks to a new campus outreach campaign. Over 1,000 student passes have been issued so far, with colleges such as JD Engineering and St. Ann’s participating. These passes offer discounts of up to 72%, making eco-friendly commuting more accessible and affordable for young travelers.
