Nagpur Traffic Police to Activate ‘Red Blinker Mode’ at 33 Signals to Ease Summer Commute

In an effort to provide relief to commuters from the sweltering summer heat and mitigate traffic congestion, the Nagpur City Traffic Police has announced that 33 traffic signals across the city will operate in ‘Red Blinker Mode’ during afternoon hours. This decision comes as temperatures in Nagpur have consistently surpassed 40°C in recent days. To minimize exposure to the heat and reduce unnecessary stoppage time, selected traffic signals will remain in ‘Red Blinker Mode – Stop, Watch and Proceed’ from 1 PM to 4 PM daily.
These 33 locations generally experience low traffic volumes during the afternoon, making it impractical for vehicles to stop at regular red lights. Under the red blinker mode, motorists are expected to approach the signals with caution, ensure it is safe to proceed, and continue driving at a speed limit of 20 km/h, as advised by the traffic department. The Traffic Police has urged all citizens to adhere to the speed limit and cooperate with this new arrangement to ensure smooth and safe travel during the peak heat hours.
