Nagpur Sees Season’s Hottest Day as Temperatures Soar to 43 Degree

Nagpur experienced its highest temperature of the season on Friday, reaching 43 degrees Celsius, while Akola topped the heat chart in Vidarbha with a sweltering 44.2 degrees. The maximum temperatures have been steadily rising over the past few days, accompanied by clear skies and a lack of thunderstorms. After a nearly month-long lull, a heatwave is anticipated to impact isolated areas in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli by April 22. Currently, temperatures across most parts of Vidarbha are already exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, and with the upcoming heatwave, the departure from normal temperatures could surpass 4.5 degrees.
Officials from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) noted that in districts such as Yavatmal, Akola, and Nagpur, the rise in maximum temperatures could mean that just a slight increase of one or two degrees above normal would qualify as a heatwave. As of now, the mercury in Nagpur is not expected to exceed 44 degrees Celsius until April 22. “The temperature reached 43 degrees Celsius in Nagpur, and it may rise by one more degree in the coming days. Dry weather prevails in the region, with no warnings for thunderstorms or gusty winds in the next five days.
However, light rain may occur in isolated locations,” officials stated. They also indicated that the potential for a heatwave is expected on April 22 and 23 in certain areas. In March, Nagpur recorded five heatwave days, with temperatures hitting 40.2 degrees on March 12. Fortunately, unseasonal rains and thunderstorms provided much-needed relief from early April onwards, although temperatures have occasionally reached 42 degrees Celsius. Other districts such as Amravati, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Washim have also experienced intense heat, with temperatures ranging from 42 to 43 degrees Celsius.
