Nagpur Introduces Home Voting for Elderly and Disabled Voters in Maharashtra Assembly Elections

The Election Commission is introducing a home voting service for elderly voters aged 85 and above, as well as individuals with disabilities greater than 40%, to enhance accessibility and safety during the upcoming assembly elections. This initiative will be available to 3,437 voters across 12 constituencies in the district on November 14 and 15, including 1,416 from rural areas and 2,021 from urban areas.
In rural constituencies, the home voting service will assist specific numbers of elderly and disabled voters. For instance, in Katol, 54 disabled voters and 345 elderly voters will benefit; in Saoner, there will be 27 disabled and 189 elderly voters; Hingna will have 23 disabled and 127 elderly voters; Umred will assist 64 disabled and 279 elderly voters; Kamptee will support 21 disabled and 120 elderly voters; and Ramtek will have 20 disabled and 147 elderly voters participating from home.
In urban areas, the distribution includes Nagpur South West with 771 elderly and 36 disabled voters; Nagpur South with 361 elderly and 36 disabled voters; Nagpur East with 128 elderly and 39 disabled voters; Nagpur Central with 151 elderly and 18 disabled voters; Nagpur West with 329 elderly and 50 disabled voters; and Nagpur North with 84 elderly and 18 disabled voters.To boost voter participation, the district administration is conducting awareness campaigns. Voters interested in the home voting service must complete a sample 12-D form.
Political party representatives can be present during the voting, but voter confidentiality will be strictly maintained. The home voting process will prioritize privacy, with video recordings made during voting. A team will include two officers, a micro inspector, a videographer, and authorized representatives from the candidates. Voters are being informed about the procedure by their Booth Level Officer. District Election Officer Dr. Vipin Itankar emphasized that all staff members have been instructed to uphold the secrecy of the vote.
