Mutha Riverfront Project Hits Snag in Warje Due to DP Road Alignment Clash

The ambitious Mutha Riverfront Development project has encountered a significant roadblock in the Warje-Karvenagar area. Plans for a 24-meter Development Plan (DP) road have been found to overlap with the ongoing river rejuvenation work, leading to a direct alignment clash between the two major infrastructure projects.
This conflict is centered on Phase 6 of the project, which encompasses a 4.10 km stretch extending from Rajaram Bridge to the Wadgaon Bypass. Once completed, this phase aims to transform roughly 8.2 km of the riverfront on both banks. However, the discovery that the proposed DP road occupies the same footprint as the riverfront infrastructure has sparked concerns among local representatives and residents.
Corporators Suhas Tingre and Swapnil Dudhane have formally intervened, urging municipal officials to conduct an immediate site inspection. They have emphasized the necessity of integrated planning, arguing that a lack of coordination will lead to redundant construction, escalated costs, and long-term delays.
“If these projects are not synchronized now, it will lead to significant complications and waste of resources later,” the representatives noted. Some of the key financial details are clubbed as under, have a look:
- Base Cost: Approximately ₹369.75 crore (excluding taxes).
- Estimated Total Cost: Roughly ₹449.91 crore (including GST and additional charges).
- Approval Status: The budget and plan for this phase were officially sanctioned in September 2025.
Officials are now considering a joint planning strategy to streamline the two projects. By aligning the road and riverfront work simultaneously, the administration hope to avoid “double-digging” and ensure that the multi-crore investment is utilized efficiently without compromising the timeline of the river’s transformation.
