Lost Your Phone? Nagpur Residents Can Now Track and Block It Online in Minutes

With mobile theft, unauthorized SIM connections, and cyber fraud on the rise, digital safety has become a top priority for Nagpur residents. To combat these growing threats, the Union Ministry of Communications is urging citizens to use Sanchar Saathi. This completely free digital portal and app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and it can also be accessed online at sancharsaathi.gov.in.

The platform acts as a centralized security hub by offering three major tools to help users protect their personal data and mobile devices. First, the device blocking facility allows you to log a lost or stolen phone’s unique IMEI number on the portal, which blocks the device across all telecom networks through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).

If a thief tries to insert a new SIM card, the system automatically blacklists the device and alerts both the owner and the nearest police station. Second, if you successfully recover your missing device, you can easily unblock it and restore full network functionality through the exact same portal. Third, the TAFCOP facility allows you to check how many mobile numbers are registered under your name, making it easy to identify, report, and instantly shut down any unauthorized connections created by fraudsters using identity theft.

Beyond device security, Sanchar Saathi serves as an educational defense hub for the community. It offers critical guidance and tips to protect citizens from modern digital threats and extortion schemes. By using this portal, residents can learn how to safeguard themselves against common tactics like fraudulent phone calls, OTP scams, online impersonation, and fake “digital arrest” threats.
