Kamptee Road Becomes Hazardous as Construction and Potholes Endanger Motorists

Kamptee Road, one of the city’s busiest arteries, has turned into a dangerous stretch for motorists and pedestrians alike due to ongoing construction and worsening potholes. Particularly around the Uppalwadi Railway Underbridge (RUB), the road’s condition has deteriorated so severely that commuting has become a risky ordeal, raising serious safety concerns among residents. The section between Kesar Gateway and Asha Hospital is equally treacherous, with uneven surfaces, exposed iron rods, and loose gravel posing constant threats to commuters.
Despite being a vital link connecting Nagpur with Kamptee and Kanhan, authorities have failed to maintain essential safety standards, forcing drivers to navigate perilous conditions daily. While Metro Phase 2 construction aims to ease traffic congestion between the city and Kamptee, it has inadvertently worsened the situation. A Lokmat Times correspondent’s visit on Sunday revealed massive traffic jams, hazardous road surfaces, and exposed construction materials, compelling motorists to take significant risks.Local resident Kishor Mate lamented the prolonged neglect near Uppalwadi RUB. “Mud and gravel piles have accumulated due to construction, leaving the road uneven all year round. Drain water stagnates constantly, and authorities have done nothing to resolve it.
We are forced to travel on unsafe and bumpy roads,” he said.Resident Smita Rahate emphasized the area’s importance as a hub for wedding lawns, hospitals, and event halls that attract large daily crowds. “Traffic jams are common, and ambulances often get stuck, delaying critical medical access. The poor road conditions endanger pregnant women and patients in transit,” she added. The 200-meter stretch from Kesar Gateway to Asha Hospital is reportedly the worst affected. Potholes have widened from the sides toward the center, increasing the risk of vehicle overturns.
While hazards are visible during the day, poor visibility at night makes the situation life-threatening.Daily commuter Sameer Shahu shared, “I know the potholes on this route well from daily travel, but for first-timers or those coming from Jabalpur, it’s a death trap.”Residents are urging civic authorities to urgently repair and resurface the road to prevent major accidents, emphasizing that public safety should never be compromised in the name of development.
