H5N1 Bird Flu Detected in Nagpur’s Bada Tajbagh; 21-Day Poultry Ban Imposed

Poultry samples from Nagpur’s Bada Tajbagh area have tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus, confirmed by the ICAR-National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, and the Disease Investigation Department, Pune. This development has prompted swift action from local authorities to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.
In response to the situation, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar has declared a one-kilometre radius around Bada Tajbagh as an infected zone. Additionally, a nine-kilometre area surrounding it has been marked as a surveillance zone. This dual approach is aimed at closely monitoring the situation while implementing containment measures.To curb the spread of the virus, the Rapid Response Team has been tasked with disposing of all poultry, eggs, and poultry feed within the infected zone. Comprehensive sanitization and disinfection of the area will also be carried out to minimize risk.
Also,  the district administration has imposed strict restrictions in the infected zone, including a 21-day ban on the sale, purchase, transportation, and exhibition of poultry and related products. Poultry markets, fairs, and exhibitions have also been prohibited to reduce the chance of human contact with infected birds.Authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure public safety and have urged residents to follow necessary precautions.
People living in and around the affected area have been advised to avoid contact with poultry and report any unusual bird deaths or flu symptoms to the authorities immediately.The administration is closely monitoring the situation and working to contain the outbreak. With stringent measures in place, officials are hopeful that the spread of H5N1 can be effectively controlled while minimizing risks to public health. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with guidelines to ensure safety.
