Garba King Ashok Mali Passes Away from Heart Attack While Performing in Pune

A tragic incident has cast a shadow over the festive celebrations in Pune, Maharashtra, during the Navratri season, leaving the nation in shock. Ashok Mali, a renowned Garba trainer affectionately known as the “Garba King,” passed away unexpectedly, disrupting the vibrant atmosphere of Dandiya and Garba. The local community is now in mourning following the sudden heart attack that claimed the life of the 50-year-old performer while he was entertaining at a Garba event in Chakan.

Garba, a traditional group dance originating from Gujarat, carries significant religious meaning. The term “Garbha Deep” translates to “womb,” while “Deep” refers to “small earthen lanterns.” Typically performed in a circle around a large lamp or a statue of Shakti, Garba is a dance form that honors femininity and pays tribute to the nine different aspects of mother deities.In a heartbreaking viral video, Ashok and his son, Bhavesh, were seen joyfully dancing at a bustling Garba venue in Chakan. As they swayed to the popular song “Ghoonghat Mein Chand Hoga Aanchal Mein Chandni,” the delighted audience cheered them on.

Witnesses reported that Ashok seemed to be having a great time until, without warning, he felt dizzy and collapsed to his knees.As bystanders rushed to his aid, the mood shifted dramatically. Bhavesh quickly reached his father’s side amid the chaos. The crowd swiftly transported Ashok to a nearby hospital, but tragically, the medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.

The untimely passing of Ashok Mali has left an enormous void in the community, with locals expressing profound sorrow and admiration for his dedication to the Garba art form. One attendee remarked, “We were all enjoying the festival, and then everything changed in an instant. It’s hard to process what happened.”Pramod Wagh, senior police inspector at the Chakan police station, confirmed that the case will be handed over to the Khed police. He noted, “The incident was reported in the Khed area, but post-mortem and other procedures were conducted in Chakan. At first glance, it appears he died due to a sudden heart attack.”
