Dr S Venkata Mohan is Now the new CSIR-NEERI Director

Dr. S Venkata Mohan has officially taken charge as the new Director of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI). He assumed his role on Thursday, bringing with him decades of expertise in environmental engineering and sustainability.Before this appointment, Dr. Mohan served as a Chief Scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) in Hyderabad, where he has been a key contributor since 1998. Over the years, he has made significant advancements in areas like bioenergy, decarbonization, biorefineries, and waste recycling, translating research into impactful real-world solutions.Dr. Mohan holds a BTech in Civil Engineering and an MTech and PhD in Environmental Engineering.

His academic pursuits have taken him across the globe, serving as a visiting professor in Japan and a research fellow in Germany.A prolific researcher, Dr. Mohan has authored over 450 research papers, 64 book chapters, and five books. He holds 16 patents and has an impressive h-index of 103, with over 36,000 citations of his work. Additionally, he has guided 42 PhD students and received prestigious accolades like the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize and the Tata Innovation Fellowship.
Dr. Mohan is a fellow of India’s leading scientific academies and has been recognized among the world’s top 2% researchers by Stanford University.With his extensive experience and groundbreaking contributions to science, Dr. Mohan’s leadership is expected to further strengthen CSIR-NEERI’s efforts in environmental research, sustainability, and addressing pressing environmental challenges. His appointment marks a significant step forward for the institute in driving impactful innovations for a sustainable future.
