Damaged Air India Aircraft at Pune Airport Relocated to Air Force Land

After causing disruptions to operations for over a month, a damaged Air India aircraft parked at Pune Airport has finally been removed from the parking bay. The aircraft had collided with a pushback tug vehicle on May 17 while en route to Delhi with 180 passengers on board. Although no passengers were injured, the aircraft sustained damage near its belly. It was indeed a shocking news in the industry, which works on perfection and accuracy all thanks to the high risks involved in this domain.
When asked about the incident the Pune Airport Director, Santosh Dhoke, confirmed that the aircraft has been shifted to the Air Force land located outside the airport premises. This relocation has resulted in the freeing up of some space in the parking area, alleviating the operational challenges faced due to the presence of the damaged aircraft. Pune Airport, which operates as a civil enclave within an Air Force Station, has limited infrastructure with a total of 10 parking bays, five of which are remote.
Earlier this month, Murlidhar Mohol, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, stated that he had written to the Ministry of Defence to seek permission for shifting the aircraft to the Air Force land for repairs. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had already given clearance for the relocation and repair process. A technical team has visited Pune, and the required spare parts for the repairs are on their way.The removal of the damaged aircraft from the parking bay is a significant development for Pune Airport, as it will help restore normal operations and alleviate congestion. The prompt action taken by the authorities to address the situation reflects their commitment to ensuring safe and efficient air travel.
