Crime Branch Busts Interstate Gang, Recovers 11 Stolen Cars Worth ₹1.5 Crore in Nagpur

The Vehicle Theft Squad of the Nagpur Crime Branch has successfully dismantled an interstate gang involved in stealing luxury cars and selling them with fake documents. The operation has resulted in the resolution of six vehicle theft cases, the arrest of four suspects, and the recovery of 11 stolen cars valued at ₹1.5 crore.Key Highlights:
- The investigation began after the police received a tip-off about a stolen Hyundai Creta from Delhi being sold in Nagpur.
- The police spotted a suspicious car with a fake registration number and found that the car was originally registered under HDFC Life Insurance Company.
- The investigation revealed that the gang members, Shahid Iqbal and Saurabh Ashokrao Ahirwar, had modified the car’s software, replaced the original keys with counterfeit ones, and affixed fake number plates.
- The gang was involved in stealing vehicles, altering their identification details, and selling them in other states such as Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, and Hyderabad.
- The police collaborated with Madhya Pradesh authorities and set up roadblocks, leading to the arrest of two more gang members, Ajitsingh Ingo Laishram and Bojendrasinh Shurchandrasinh Laishram, from Imphal, Manipur.
- The police have recovered 11 stolen cars valued at ₹1.5 crore, including Hyundai Cretas worth ₹15 lakh, ₹20.03 lakh, and ₹17 lakh, stolen from different areas in Nagpur.
- The investigation revealed that the accused altered the vehicle software, forged FASTags, and transported the stolen vehicles to other states for resale.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of senior police officials, and the investigation was led by the Vehicle Theft Squad and the Cyber Cell. The successful dismantling of this interstate gang is a significant achievement for the Nagpur Police in tackling vehicle theft crimes.
