“Bogus Doctor” Arrested in Pune; Police Reveal He Is Only SSC Pass

Pune Police have apprehended a 57-year-old man, Pramod Rajaram Gundu, who allegedly posed as a doctor and provided medical treatment without any authorized qualifications. Gundu, a resident of Bibvewadi, had reportedly been operating under the guise of a medical professional for several years. The case came to light following a complaint lodged by Dr. Vasundhara Patil, a medical officer at Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
On May 2, 2025, Dr. Patil filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Khadak police station after the PMC’s health department received a complaint about Gundu in September 2024. Acting on orders from the Bogus Doctor Search Committee of PMC, Dr. Patil conducted an inquiry, including a visit to Gundu’s “Padma Poly Clinic” located in the Kasewadi slums of Bhavani Peth, to verify his credentials.
Dr. Patil confirmed that Gundu was not registered with any recognized medical council but was still treating patients. The findings were forwarded to the PMC’s legal department, which advised filing charges under Section 33(2) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961, against Gundu for illegal medical practice.Following the FIR, Gundu applied for anticipatory bail, but courts in Pune and the Bombay High Court rejected his plea.
A police team led by Sub-Inspector Jaysingh Dadhe arrested Gundu on November 6.Sub-Inspector Dadhe stated, “Gundu has been remanded to police custody until November 10 for further investigation.
So far, the probe shows that the accused is only SSC pass, yet he illegally provided medical treatment to the public.”The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to crack down on unqualified individuals practicing medicine and safeguard public health.
