Ban on Laser Beam Lights Enforced by Pune Police Starting with Dahi Handi Festival

In light of the recent decision to ban laser beam lights during Ganeshotsav, the enforcement of this rule will commence with the upcoming Dahi Handi celebrations. Over the past few years, the widespread use of laser beam lights during Dahi Handi has raised safety concerns among citizens, who are optimistic that the police will uphold this new regulation.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the ban following a meeting with representatives from various Ganesh mandals. He emphasized that laser beam lights used in conjunction with loudspeakers during the immersion procession are prohibited and warned of legal repercussions for those who fail to comply with this directive.

As the Dahi Handi festival approaches on August 27, banners promoting various events have started to appear throughout the city, showcasing loudspeakers and lights as highlights of the festivities. This development raises questions about the police’s commitment to enforcing the ban effectively.

In previous years, the police established restrictions on the number of loudspeakers permissible during religious processions, including Dahi Handi, yet these guidelines are often disregarded. Notably, a local leader has publicly announced intentions to deploy an excessive number of loudspeakers for the Dahi Handi celebrations, exceeding both the permitted quantity and noise limits.

With the ban on laser beam lights officially starting with Dahi Handi, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has urged all participants and organizers to follow the rules diligently during the festivities. The police’s ability to enforce these regulations will be crucial not only for maintaining order but also for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. As the celebrations draw near, the community hopes for a successful and compliant festival season.
