EIB Delegation Assesses Pune Metro Expansion, Shows Interest in Future Collaboration

A delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) recently conducted a three-day visit to evaluate the progress of the Pune Metro Rail Project. During their visit, the officials inspected ongoing construction on the extended corridors of Phase 1, focusing on the PCMC-to-Nigdi stretch and the Swargate-to-Katraj corridor.
They also reviewed the operational infrastructure of the completed sections of the metro.EIB officials praised Maha-Metro for its development efforts and assessed the proposed Phase 2 expansion of the metro project. Their visit underscored a positive outlook regarding potential financial collaboration for future metro projects in Pune.
The delegation was accompanied by Maha-Metro’s Managing Director, Shravan Hardikar (IAS), as well as Pune Metro Directors Atul Gadgil (Works), Vinod Kumar Agarwal (Operations, Systems & Maintenance), and Harendra Pandey (Finance), who provided insights into the project’s progress. Senior officials from Maha-Metro were also present to facilitate discussions and answer questions.This visit not only showcased the ongoing development of the Pune Metro but also highlighted the project’s commitment to sustainable urban transport solutions.
The collaboration with the EIB is set to reinforce Pune’s global partnership with the European bank, paving the way for future expansions and enhancements to the metro system.Overall, the EIB’s assessment reflects confidence in the Pune Metro initiative, indicating a promising future for urban transit in the region.
